Expedition 2018 Japan - Alaska
USS GrunionHistoryCrewAbele FamilyExpedition '06-'07Expedition '18

2018 Expedition focused on several targets offshore Japan as well as the USS Grunion off of Kiska, Alaska. The time spent offshore Japan was plagued by five typhoons and limited survey time on site in Japanese waters.  We were able to successfully map over 200 square nautical miles in search of possible USS Scamp and USS Trigger sites with no discoveries.  The site of the USS Grunion, first discovered in 2006 by the sons of the Captain was revisited and the bow section, previously undiscovered was located and documented.  In addition to discovery our team performed the most comprehensive photogrammetry survey every performed on a WWII submarine.  For detailed information on the Grunion survey  click here >>>
